The Why of It

So why do you do it? Why do you spend time with young people, as a youth worker, a volunteer, a mentor, etc? What is it that motivates and drives you, other than you like to hang out with young people?

If you haven't thought about this for a while, take a couple minutes and write down 5 reasons why you are involved in youth ministry. Any surprises?

For many of us, it's a call. We may have other reasons that we give but we really do feel called by God to journey with students and grow in God's grace together, giving guidance and wisdom from our viewpoint of having been traveling a longer time. Of course, we learn from them as well.

There are many ways in which we work out this, "why we do this." God has given us different gifts and abilities and calls. But I pray that at the heart of all that we do, we seek the glory and reign of God and God's best for the precious lives that God has entrusted to us.

So, why do you do it? Tell us.
